BOB DYLAN IN THE 1980s - A RECONSIDERATION

   Since he first took the stage in the early 1960s, Dylan has consistently defied expectations, and has received criticism for doing so. This was especially true in the 1980s as he navigated aging, new technologies, and a self-admitted creative disconnect.
   Despite these challenges, Dylan’s work throughout the decade reveals the artist striving, albeit at times unsuccessfully, to create rather than replicate. A lost decade, perhaps, given his output before and after, but by any metric, it was a productive and profitable period.
