OFFICIAL and 'ILLEGAL' STAMPS::
Most of (see the WARNING below) the stamps below are official items, issued by the postal administration of various countries, where they can be used to send mail. The Fantasy Stamps are now here.
Here is the list of countries, most of them from Third World, where Bob Dylan stamps have been issued.
WARNING: The beautiful series of 8 stamps, apparently from the countries marked by a * in the list below,
actually come from the Russian Federation. Though they are very attractive items, they are NOT genuine postal stamps. They are even called 'illegal' by the UPU (Universal Postal Union): "an illegal stamp is one that carries the name of a legitimate country or territory, but was not produced or printed by the postal administration of that country, and is not valid for postage anywhere in the world."
Bénin (République du) *
Burundi (République du) *
Cabo Verde (Republic of) *
Centrafrique (République Centrafricaine)
Comores (Union des) *
Congo (République Démocratique du) *
Djibouti (République de) *
Guinée (République de)
Mali (République du)
Myanmar (Union of)
Niger (République du) *
São Tomé e Principe
Tchad (République du)
Togo (République Togolaise)
USA (aborted project)
For political reasons, the Russian Federation calls some others 'illegal', as "the regions on whose behalf these stamps have been issued form an integral part of the Russian Federation and that, according to the provisions
of the UPU Regulations and Russian Federation legislation, they are not authorized to issue postage stamps independently".
As they are quite collectible, these Dylan items are listed here anyway:
Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria,
Republic of Kalmykia,
Republic of Tatarstan,
Republic of Touva,
Republic of Udmurtia.
You can read more about these 'illegal stamps' here.
