The MITTELBAYERISCHE ZEITUNG is a regional daily newspaper based in Regensburg and belongs to the Mittelbayerische Zeitung GmbH. The newspaper was founded in 1945 by Karl Friedrich Esser . Today the publisher employs 400 people (as of 2022) and is owned by the Passau publishing group , after the publishing house was sold from the family ownership by the founders' grandchildren Peter and Thomas Esser at the end of July 2021.
